In the 1860s the French botanist François Durif kept a nursery of several grape varieties at his home. At some point two vines cross pollinated and Durif discovered a new grape variety growing in his nursery, which was named Durif.
Ricca Terra Farms has only a small area of Durif planted for pure blending reasons. It makes highly coloured concentrated wines and works well with a number of Italian varieties when married together in a barrel or bottle.
This will be a variety that Ricca Terra Farms won’t much noise about, but it will be a working hard behind the scenes helping its Italian cousins look great!
